Roof Cleaning Services By Fleet Kleen
In Southwest Florida, it is very common to hear that a roof is covered with mildew, which is a fungus, but a black roof or one with a dark discoloration, often beginning in streaks, is typically the result of algae, technically known as Gloeocapsa Magma. The algae thrive in humid and warm climates and usually first appear on the Northern slope where shade is more prevalent and the moisture tends to accumulate…. diminishing your home’s curb appeal and likely shortening the life of the surface of the roof.
Shingle Roofs: Once the algae have attached to a shingle roof, it feeds on the limestone that is used in the manufacturing process of the shingle and eventually leads to the breakdown of the shingle. If left untreated in Florida’s heat, moisture, and light, the algae spores quickly multiply and can significantly reduce the life of your roof. Fleet Kleen follows the prescribed guidelines of the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association when cleaning shingle roofs with our soft wash (low pressure) method. The Fleet Kleen methods clean the surface of your roof as well as penetrate down into the shingle to kill the algae at its source. Fleet Kleen’s treatment program prevents the return of algae to extend the life of your roof while keeping your shingle roof clean year-round!
Tile Roofs: Fleet Kleen strongly recommends a preventative maintenance program of roof treatments for any new tile roof (or following a full cleaning) as it is economical, easy on the roof, and Fleet Kleen takes care of any touch-ups as required during the roof treatment (special conditions apply for white tile roofs). If you need to have the roof cleaned, let us help you make the right choice by answering some commonly asked questions.
Fleet Kleen can help you decide whether a moderate pressure cleaning (less chemical) or a soft wash (more chemical) is appropriate for your property and can provide you with advice on a preventative maintenance program for the future.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Why would I use pressure cleaning (water pressure) instead of soft wash (chemical)
Professional pressure cleaning is mainly using water to remove algae. We use industrial equipment so we utilize high volumes of water at moderate water pressure. This option provides you with immediate results without any of the risks associated with chemicals. With that said, we can offer a finishing touch of a light fungicide that will finalize and protect the roof until the next treatment.
Can you clean my roof without pressure and spend less time on the roof?
Yes, soft wash cleaning applies a chemical solution (rather than pressure) to the roof to remove the algae. This minimizes time on the roof and therefore is the most economical method for cleaning your roof. Depending on the solution required to fully clean, precautions are taken to help reduce browning of leaves, but can occasionally occur with this process.
Are there alternative chemicals I can consider for soft washing the roof?
Yes, our Green Soap is a time-release product that we mist onto your roof and it works over time. Similar to a fertilizer in that it is activated by rainfall and therefore cleans quicker in the rainy seasons. This is likely not the right approach if you have an HOA violation, but it is a great alternative for a homeowner that wants minimal pressure and has concerns about plants, etc.
Is there a way to clean the roof without walking on it?
Yes, with our unique Drone Technology, we can stay off the roof and still offer a consistent cleaning at the top of the roofs (either with our standard soft wash chemical or with our Green Soap). This has become a game-changer for many customers, as well as in situations where roofs are too steep, slippery, or inaccessible without expensive lift equipment.

What Our Clients Say
“I’ve used Fleet Clean for the past 2 years. They originally came out to do a deep clean on my roof, home, driveway, sidewalks, pool deck pavers, and paver patio in my back yard. They also sealed my pavers. They were very thorough. They then offered a service package where they come out 3x per year for a locked in price to clean all of that area again, but being preventative. They also apply a topical to the roof to prevent mold.
Their service tech Luke is awesome and very communicative, taking a lot of pride in his work. Now, instead of spending a lot of money to do a deep clean when your home is moldy or dirty, the 3x per year at a lower cost always keeps the home looking awesome and new. I love this company and would recommend them to anyone. Great customer service, extremely timely, professional, and thorough!”
