How to Prepare for Sealing your Pavers

The first step is to determine what you want to accomplish with sealing of your pavers. Are you looking for color enhancement, which is typically a darker, richer color for the pavers? Are there uneven or loose pavers? Are the pavers dirty or are there stains or other discolorations on the pavers?

Let’s start with the obvious… You may have considered if this is a “Do It Yourself” project. While pressure cleaning could possibly be a DIY project, sealing of your pavers can be much more complex and is probably an investment you should make with a company that does this type of work on a regular basis.

Yes, the pavers will first need to be pressure washed. When providing an estimate for your “Clean & Seal”, the contractor can advise of any additional work that should be completed on the pavers in order to prepare them for sealing. The sealant utilized should be a “water-based” product, but the quality of those sealants can vary significantly, with the premium products usually being a “2-Part” mix that the contractor then apples in two coats.

Pavers can be sealed year-round in Florida. Many contractors try to “clean and seal” the same day in order to save themselves a trip, while the more cautious approach is to clean one day and return the next for evaluation and sealing.

What about sand, weeds, leveling, stains, etc? Each set of pavers is different, so finding the right contractor to help you answer these questions is critical
